Joseph Smith playing at a gaming event

Joseph Smith

I'm Joseph, a digital nomad born in the 90s, and I grew up with technology all around me, from dial-up internet to games on a Commodore. The console I loved most was my PlayStation 1. I enjoyed the multi-level platform games and went nuts for the Harry Potter and Spyro games.

Then I discovered Halo 2 multiplayer and never looked back. There was something about working with a team toward a common goal: people from across the globe connected in one space, in real time, all on the same mission. It was like dreaming together.

Next came competitive Counter-Strike, with its terrorists against counter-terrorists rounds and mechanics that feel very different from the first-person shooters we play today. Now I play Counter-Strike and Dota 2 competitively. I'm studying in the UK at the University of Lincoln, which is why I compete in National Student Esports with Lincoln Dota.

I needed a day job to survive, so I could never put in the hours it takes to play at the level of the pros. That is why I started Toopics. The aim of the site is to raise awareness in the gaming world and bring people closer together, especially through Discord.
