Discord Checkpoint is Discord’s year-in-review, a Spotify Wrapped-style set of cards built from your messages, voice time, servers, emoji and games. The 2025 edition launched on December 4, 2025, and its viewing window has now closed. This guide covers where Checkpoint lived in the app, what it showed, why it failed for some people, and what to change now so you qualify if Discord runs it again.
Where to Find Discord Checkpoint: The Flag Icon
On desktop, Checkpoint sat behind a small flag icon in the top-right corner of the Discord app, near the inbox and help icons. Clicking the flag opened your recap.
Most people never had to look for it. Discord showed a one-time pop-up the first time you opened the app after rollout. The pop-up announced Checkpoint and had a button to start your recap. If you closed it, it did not come back, and the flag icon became the only way in. That is why so many people searched “where is Discord Checkpoint” after dismissing the pop-up by reflex.
On mobile, the same one-time prompt appeared when you opened the app. After that, the entry point moved between builds. Updating the app and restarting it was the reliable way to bring it back.
Warning: turning data personalization back on will not create a 2025 Checkpoint.
Discord builds Checkpoint from data it collected while your personalization setting was on. If the setting was off during 2025, that data was never used for you, and switching it on now cannot rebuild the year. Re-enabling it only prepares your account for a possible 2026 edition.
What Discord Checkpoint Is
Checkpoint was Discord’s first-ever annual recap, released to mark the platform’s 10th anniversary. It pulled from your own account activity and turned it into a short sequence of cards that ended in a shareable summary.
It was private by default. Nothing appeared in any server or DM unless you shared it yourself.
What Checkpoint Shows You
The 2025 recap covered:
- Messages sent across servers and DMs
- Time spent in voice channels
- Your most active servers
- Your most-used emoji
- Gaming activity, including your most-played games, based on the activity status Discord detected while you played
- A personality card summing up how you used Discord, plus a matching avatar decoration
The gaming stats were a big draw for players who keep activity status on. If you hide your activity or play mostly on a console without linking it, expect that section to be thin or empty. Discord can only count games it saw you playing.
Checkpoint counts only your own activity. Bot-tracked XP from MEE6 or similar leveling tools is separate, so your “most active server” in Checkpoint can differ from the server where you hold the top rank.
The 10 Personality Cards and Avatar Decorations
Every recap ended with one of 10 distinct personality card types. Discord assigned yours based on your dominant habits, such as heavy voice use, constant texting, gaming or emoji-heavy chatting.
Each card type came with its own matching avatar decoration. Viewing your Checkpoint granted the decoration tied to your card, and it could be equipped until January 15, 2026. That date has passed, so the 2025 decorations are no longer claimable. Discord has not said whether any future edition will include a reward.
The card types did most of the social spreading. People posted their card to compare with friends, and servers ran threads where members shared which type they got.
Discord 2025 by the Numbers
Alongside personal recaps, Discord published platform-wide figures for 2025:
| Stat | Figure |
|---|---|
| Messages sent on Discord in 2025 | 744 billion |
| Monthly active users | About 200 million |
| Most-used emoji | The red heart ❤️ |
| Top games highlighted | League of Legends, Rematch, R.E.P.O. |
League of Legends has been a Discord staple for years. Rematch and R.E.P.O. are 2025 arrivals that took off through friend groups and voice chat, which fits a platform built around playing together.
How to View Your Discord Checkpoint
These steps applied during the 2025 window and are the likely route for any future edition.
- Update Discord. On desktop, quit Discord fully from the system tray and reopen it so it checks for updates on launch. On mobile, update through the App Store or Google Play.
- Confirm data personalization is on. Go to User Settings > Data & Privacy and enable the option that lets Discord use your data to personalize your experience.
- Restart the app.
- Open Checkpoint from the one-time pop-up, or click the flag icon in the top-right corner on desktop.
- Click or tap through your cards until you reach the Summary page.
- Share or save your summary.
The browser version tended to lag behind the desktop and mobile apps, so the installed apps were the safer bet.
Sharing Your Checkpoint
You did not need a screenshot. The Summary page had a Share button. Selecting it let you pick a Discord channel or DM and post the card directly inside Discord. Screenshots still worked for posting to other platforms.
Before sharing, read what is on the card. Server names can reveal private communities you would rather keep quiet.
Troubleshooting: “Discord Checkpoint Unavailable”
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No flag icon or pop-up | Outdated client | Update, then fully restart Discord |
| “Checkpoint unavailable” | Data personalization was off during the year | Cannot be recovered for 2025. Turn the setting on now and leave it on for future editions |
| Unavailable screen despite normal use | Confirmed bug affecting users with little or no voice activity | Discord staff shipped a fix. Restart or update the app to pick it up |
| Missing on Android | Discord temporarily disabled Checkpoint on Android to fix an issue | Use desktop or iOS. The Android pause was flagged on Discord’s support site |
| Recap nearly empty | Low activity, or the setting was off for much of the year | Nothing to fix. The data is not there |
| Friend has it, you don’t | Staged rollout, region or VPN | Disconnect the VPN, restart, retry over a few days |
| Flag icon gone | The Checkpoint window closed | The 2025 recap is no longer viewable |
Force an update check on desktop
Press Ctrl+R on Windows or Cmd+R on Mac with Discord focused. This reloads the client and often pulls a pending update or feature flag without a full reinstall.
Clear the cache
- Windows: quit Discord, press Win+R, open
%appdata%/discord, and delete the Cache, Code Cache and GPUCache folders. Reopen Discord. - Mac: quit Discord, open
~/Library/Application Support/discordand delete the same folders. - Android: Settings > Apps > Discord > Storage > Clear cache.
- iOS: there is no cache button. Offload or delete the app and reinstall it.
Log out and back in
Logging out refreshes your account session and the features attached to it. Several users reported Checkpoint appearing only after a fresh login. On desktop, the log out option is at the bottom of User Settings.
Turn off your VPN
Features like Checkpoint roll out in stages, and a VPN can make your connection look like it comes from a region that has not received the feature yet. Disconnect it, restart Discord and check again.
How Much Activity Is Enough?
Discord never published a minimum threshold. Steady text chatting through the year was generally enough. Accounts that only lurked, or alts used a handful of times, either got a sparse recap or the unavailable screen. The voice-activity bug wrongly blocked some active texters too, which is why that staff fix mattered.
The Privacy Controversy: Opted Out, Still in Friends’ Recaps
A widely shared Reddit discussion pointed out that people who had turned off data personalization still showed up in their friends’ Checkpoints, for example as someone they messaged a lot.
The explanation is how the setting works. It controls whether Discord uses your data to personalize your experience. Your friend’s recap is built from their activity, and their messages to you are part of that. Opting out stopped you getting a recap. It did not erase you from conversations you were in. If that bothers you, the setting will not solve it. Fewer messages in those chats will.
Will Discord Checkpoint Return in 2026?
Discord has not confirmed it. Its official line is that plans for Checkpoint beyond 2025 are still unfolding. Treat a 2026 edition as likely given the attention the first one got, but not guaranteed.
To give yourself the best shot:
- Turn data personalization on now and leave it on all year. A late switch in December will give you a partial recap at best.
- Keep activity status enabled if you want gaming stats counted.
- Use your main account. Each recap is tied to a single account.
- Keep the app updated in December, and do not dismiss the launch pop-up without reading it.
Stay Safe

Checkpoint only ever appeared inside the official Discord app. Any DM, server post or website promising your “Checkpoint,” a decoration or free Nitro through a link is phishing. Never log in through it.
FAQ
How to view Discord Checkpoint?
During the window, you opened it from the one-time pop-up or the flag icon in the top-right corner of the desktop app, with data personalization switched on. The 2025 window has closed, so the recap can no longer be viewed.
Can I still get my 2025 Checkpoint if I turn the data setting on now?
No. The data needed for 2025 was not used while the setting was off, and Discord does not generate recaps retroactively. Turning it on now only prepares you for a future edition.
Is Discord OK for 14 year olds?
Discord’s minimum age is 13 in most countries, so a 14-year-old can hold an account legally. Teen accounts get stricter defaults, including sensitive content filters and DM safety alerts, and parents can use Family Center to see who their teen adds and which servers they join. Public servers vary widely, so supervision matters more than the age rule.
How can I tell if I’ve been blocked on Discord?
Common signs: your messages fail with a “could not be delivered” error, friend requests do not go through, and you can no longer react to their messages. That error also appears when someone restricts DMs from non-friends, so no single sign is proof. Several together are a strong indication.
How do I hide that I’m active on Discord?
Set your status to Invisible by clicking your avatar in the bottom-left corner. To stop showing the game or app you are using, go to User Settings > Activity Privacy and turn off sharing your activity status. Invisible mode also hides you from Discord’s Checkpoint-style gaming counts only if activity tracking is off, so check both settings.
Can other people see my Discord Checkpoint?
No. It stayed private unless you shared it with the Share button or a screenshot.
